Charcot Marie Tooth Symptoms
Charcot Marie Tooth symptoms and information by Diane Gracely. The symptoms vary from patient to patient, but the disease affects the patients feet first.
What is Charcot Marie Tooth Disorder
Diane Gracely was born with Charcot Marie Tooth disease. A hereditary neurological disorder that deforms the feet. As the patient ages CMT progresses, causing many more health problems. CMT is a rare disease. 1 in 2,500 have Charcot Marie Tooth. Therefore, it’s not as rare as most people think. But, no one has ever heard of it. There is NO CURE for CMT.
Peripheral Neuropathy and Charcot Marie Tooth
Another Charcot Marie Tooth symptom is nerve pain, tingling, and numbness. Therefore everyone who has CMT also has Peripheral Neuropathy. Surely, many patients can relate to this photo.
CMT Deformed Feet Photos
In any case, CMT causes muscle loss and eventually can severely deform the patient’s feet. Below is a picture of Diane’s feet before she had foot reconstruction surgeries.
Diane became permanently disabled by CMT in 1997. She could not walk without excruciating pain in her feet. She found a neurologist who was well educated about Charcot Marie Tooth. Throughout a three year time frame, he reconstructed both of Diane’s feet. Below is a photo of Diane’s feet now.
